President El-Sisi Meets with Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament in Baghdad

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Mohammed Al-Halbousi in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the President affirmed the strength and solidity of the relationship between Egypt and Iraq at various levels. The President also asserted the appreciation of the government and people of Egypt for the brotherly country of Iraq as well as its central role in the region, which is based on an ancient and long-standing history and civilization.

Egypt's keenness to continue strengthening and developing cooperation between the two brotherly countries in all fields, especially at the parliamentary level, was also stressed by the President. Thus, communication would be strengthened between the two sides at the official and popular levels.

The President also affirmed Egypt’s supportive position toward Iraq’s unity and its support for the efforts aiming to restore Iraq’s security and stability, asserting Egypt’s keenness to strengthen Iraq’s Arab national role.

The President also stressed that Egypt provides full support to the Iraqi people in all fields, whether at the bilateral level or within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with the Kingdom of Jordan. Egypt’s efforts come in support of the mutual cooperation relations and the march of the joint Arab action, within the framework of Egypt's policy of consolidating unity in order to achieve stability, progress and prosperity for all brothers.

For his part, the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament welcomed the President's historic visit to Baghdad, stressing that it opens up broad prospects for enhancing cooperation between the two brotherly countries at all levels.

Mr. Al-Halbousi also affirmed Iraq’s pride in the close historical relations it has with Egypt, praising its role in maintaining the security and stability of Iraq and the entire Arab world as well as its contributions to strengthening Arab unity. Mr. Al-Halbousi stressed his country's aspiration to enhance close cooperation between the two brotherly countries, especially at the parliamentary level, taking into account the Egyptian Parliament’s vast experience and long history.
