President El-Sisi Meets with Sudan’s Prime Minister

During his official visit to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan Dr. Abdalla Hamdok.


The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that Sudan’s Prime Minister Dr. Hamdok welcomed His Excellency to his second country, Sudan. The Prime Minister of Sudan further expressed his country’s appreciation for its close cooperative relationship with Egypt, which reflects the human and civilizational heritage between the two countries. He also praised the sincere Egyptian efforts seeking to maintain stability in Sudan and Egypt’s pivotal role in maintaining peace and security in the African continent.

The Sudanese Prime Minister also affirmed that there are broad prospects for developing joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries. Additionally, he emphasized that Sudan is keen to provide a supportive atmosphere in various strategic development areas and that it relies on the Egyptian supportive role to the ongoing Sudanese efforts to drop and reschedule Sudan’s foreign debts. PM Hamdok added that Sudan benefits from the inspiring Egyptian experience in achieving economic reforms, training Sudanese cadres, and helping Sudan face any related challenges. Hence, the depth of relations between the two countries has been reflected.

From his part, President El-Sisi expressed his happiness over visiting Sudan. The President stressed that this visit comes as a continuation of the distinguished relations binding the two brotherly countries at the official and popular levels as well as the common destiny and future they share and in support of bilateral cooperation at all levels. The visit also marks the various forms of Egypt's support for Sudan during this historical phase the country has gone into on the road to reform and development.

The President also affirmed Egypt's keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields with Sudan, particularly with regard to implementing electricity interconnection and railways projects, fostering a favorable climate for establishing joint investment projects, whether industrial or agricultural, and boosting the commercial and economic relations in both countries.

In addition, His Excellency affirmed Egypt’s eagerness to expand cooperation in stimulating the activities of the joint technical committees between Egypt and Sudan and implementing the memoranda of understanding and protocols concluded between the two countries. In this context, these agreements shall include various aspects of bilateral cooperation.

The Spokesman added that during the talks, the President and the Sudanese Prime Minister discussed various aspects of joint cooperation between Egypt and Sudan. Despite their satisfaction at the level of cooperation and coordination between the two countries, the two sides stressed the importance of supporting and strengthening bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two brotherly countries and peoples. In this context, President El-Sisi and Sudan’s PM Hamdok agreed to make optimal use of all available opportunities in order to enhance mutual integration and to build on the achievements of the visits paid by the senior officials of the two countries.

The latest developments on the negotiations of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam were also discussed. With that, consensus was reached on intensifying joint efforts during the coming period in various forums to push toward reaching a legally-binding and balanced agreement on the filling and operation of the dam. They further emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Nile Basin countries to promote sustainable use of the Nile River water resources, in a manner that would achieve the common interests of the peoples of all countries and guarantee that no harm shall be inflicted on any party.
