President El-Sisi Directs Restoration of Egyptian Cotton’s Global Position

President El-Sisi held a meeting, today, with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Assistant to the President for National and Strategic Projects Engineer Sherif Ismail, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Mr. Al-Sayed El-Quseir, Minister of Public Business Sector Mr. Hisham Tawfik, Director General of the National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) Major General Mostafa Amin and CEO of the Egyptian National Company for Industrial Development Major General Kamel Helal.

As stated by the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting discussed the axes of developing the cultivation, production and manufacturing system of Egyptian cotton as well as the current implementation status of the land reclamation projects in the South of Toshka valley.

In this context, the executive steps taken regarding Toshka development projects were demonstrated, including the cultivated areas that are targeted for reclamation in the area. The needed water and infrastructure resources to support these projects were also touched on at the meeting. Moreover, the concerned officials presented the industrial businesses being carried out by specialized government entities and the workflow of the project aimed at developing the roads and axes leading to the South of the Valley.

As a result, the President directed that all elements and details related to land reclamation in Toshka be completed, while relying on agricultural methods suitable for the nature of land and climate in Toshka. The President also instructed that proper integration of all work mechanisms among the concerned sectors, in furtherance of the desired strategic goal to expand the agricultural land across Egypt.

The Spokesman added that the meeting also discussed the updates of developing the Egyptian cotton system across the country in order to take full advantage of Egypt’s competitive edge when it comes to the cotton production worldwide, capitalizing on its quality and reputation in the global market.

Finally, His Excellency issued directives for pursuing the State’s plan to advance the Egyptian cotton system and restoring it to its former glory and global position by promoting a comprehensive development of the system across all axes: agricultural, commercial and industrial. In addition, the President directed that the area of cultivated land be expanded so as to meet the industrial needs and maximize the added value of the Egyptian cotton on a global level. The President added that national industries, depending on the Egyptian cotton, must be established, ones that produce high-quality cotton products at affordable prices for all citizens.
