Egypt Economic Conference 2022

On the 23rd of October, 2022, President El-Sisi witnessed the launch of Egypt Economic Conference 2022. The forum addressed Egypt's economic situation and future during which economists and economic experts participated.

- President El-Sisi Reviews the Economic and Social Situation in Egypt over the Past Decade

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reviewed in specific points the economic and social situation that Egypt has passed through over the past decade as follows:

It has been clear that the depth of the state’s crisis in modern times requires clear and decisive measures to address them.

Confronting challenges has always clashed with the precautions of maintaining the fragile stability of the state, rather than taking decisive actions of relative gravity.

The sum of internal and external pressures has always required popular support, which the public opinion was not ready to accept in light of the state of destitution in which the people lived.

The level of confidence in the state’s ability to find an effective path toward a solution amid the aforementioned difficult options requires hard and continuous work. This was not available due to the efforts of political Islam to cast skepticism and distortion, noting that they did not have a real project to rebuild the state, in addition to the absence of a vision regarding the magnitude of the challenges to be faced.

The state's administrative apparatus was not efficient enough to implement the required reform plans, but it was clear that reform must include this apparatus and address its weakness.

Pressure and public reactions to enduring the cost of reform have always been a huge and violent concern for decision-makers and security agencies.

The trust in and support for the political leadership and the government were not strong enough to form a basis for launching a difficult and painful roadmap that requires long years of hard work.

The capabilities of the Egyptian state were never sufficient to endure massive blows such as the conflicts and wars it experienced, which undoubtedly offered ground for exhausting and eliminating these capabilities, something that led to the exacerbation of challenges.

For decades, Egypt has suffered from lack of awareness and understanding of the elite responsible for diagnosing the situation we are in, as well as understanding the requirements for crossing the gap that the country suffers from.

The cost of reform was increasing day by day. The intensification and intertwining of crises created a state of frustration for the majority, with the proposition that it is not possible to be in a better position.

The state was unable to build a reformist intellectual context for the situation, and its institutions were not practical and able to implement it, even if it was proposed and its safety ensured.

The most dangerous thing is measuring public satisfaction according to what the citizen obtains directly, despite the ruler's keenness on achieving this matter, even if it comes at the expense of the country's future and present.

The events of 2011 and 2013 came to destroy the rest of the state's capabilities and to increase and exacerbate the challenges of the crisis. They almost completely destroyed the present and future of this nation.

The solutions, amid such facts, were impossible, particularly with the overlapping of priorities, but Allah has given peace and facilitated another matter.

The brothers and friends had an impression that the Egyptian state is unable to stand-up again, and that support and assistance over the years have created a culture of dependence on them to solve crises and problems. This underscored the importance of counting on ourselves, particularly by following creative paths to overcome the limitations and through the strategy of parallel axes.”

The question now is: To what extent are we aware of the solutions available and of the level of their efficiency. And to what extent are we, the people, the government and the leadership, willing to bear the cost. Over the past seven years, experience has proven the surprise, namely that we did not appreciate the actual reality of the Egyptians. The Egyptian people have accepted the challenge and the sacrifice, the government is exerting its utmost efforts, and the political leadership is ready to sacrifice its popularity for the sake of crossing the difficulties and achieve success. We reiterate that the state is continuing on the path it started in order to make the trajectory of reform successful, a path that is based on work and science, and that accommodates everyone.
