The Pound was fully Egyptianized in 1960 after a presidential decree was issued stipulating the establishment of the Central Bank of Egypt and giving it the right to issue the Egyptian banknotes. In 1963, during the rule of President Gamal Abdel Nasser, another version of the pound was issued by the Central Bank -instead of the National Bank of Egypt- on which a watermark of an eagle was printed. On one side, there is the image of Tutankhamun and on the other side there are decorations, inscriptions and the paper’s denomination (1 pound) written in English.
