President El-Sisi Receives Phone Call from US President Joe Biden

President El-Sisi received a phone call tonight from President of the United States Joe Biden.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the call dealt with discussions and an exchange of views on the developments of the regional issues of mutual interest as well as the areas of bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the United States of America.

In this context, President Biden affirmed the value of the fruitful partnership, constructive cooperation, and mutual understanding between the US and Egypt. He further expressed the American administration's aspiration to enhance the bilateral relations with Egypt during the next phase in various fields, particularly in light of Egypt’s pivotal role regionally and internationally as well as its effective political efforts to support the security and stability in the region and to settle its crises.

For his part, President El-Sisi affirmed the strength of the Egyptian-U.S. relations and their strategic nature. The President asserted that Egypt would continue to make efforts to strengthen the strategic relations between the two countries within a firm framework of common interests and mutual respect.

The developments on the Palestinian cause were discussed alongside ways to revive the peace process following the recent events. The two leaders spoke about ensuring that a solid stabilization would be achieved based on the ceasefire truce reached between the Palestinian and Israeli parties through Egyptian mediation and full American support.

The two leaders further addressed the international efforts aiming at the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and its provision of urgent humanitarian assistance. President Biden emphasized his country’s determination to work to restore the calm and situation to normal in the Palestinian territories and to coordinate efforts with all international partners to support the Palestinian Authority and the reconstruction process. In this context, the US President reiterated Washington’s deep appreciation for the successful efforts of President El-Sisi and the Egyptian agencies to reach the latest ceasefire, expressing his aspiration for continued consultation and coordination with President El-Sisi in this regard.

In this context, the two leaders agreed on the importance of restoring balance and stability to the Libyan state and preserving its national institutions for elections to be held at the end of this year. The American President commended the strenuous Egyptian efforts in the Libyan issue, which helped strengthen the political process in Libya. Moreover, the two Presidents also agreed to strengthen joint efforts to reintegrate Iraq into the region.

According to the Spokesman, the call dealt with an exchange of views on the developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). In this regard, President El-Sisi welcomed the continued US efforts, stressing Egypt’s adherence to its water rights by reaching a fair and binding legal agreement that guarantees clear rules for the process of the filling and operation of the dam. President Biden highlighted Washington’s full understanding of the utmost importance of this issue for the Egyptian people, indicating his intention to make efforts to ensure Egypt’s water security. The two leaders agreed that diplomatic efforts would be strengthened during the coming period in order to reach an agreement that preserves the water and development rights of all parties.
