Suez Canal Economic Zone

Suez Canal Economic Zone is an independent body of a special nature responsible for developing its regions and attracting investments to establish agricultural, industrial and service projects so that the economic zone would be among the most attractive areas for investment worldwide by 2035.
It has a board of directors headed by Admiral Mohab Mameesh, which enjoys full independence. It sets the general policy of the region and its administration in a manner that ensures the achievement of its objectives.

The region enjoys a number of benefits and tax and customs exemptions under its Law- the law of the Special Economic Zones and the New Investment Law- to limit restrictions on investments through the development and implementation of the facilitated administrative and regulatory framework.
It also enjoys a number of international preferential trade agreements, adding to it the advantage of reaching 1.6 billion consumers around the world.

The Suez Canal Economic Zone is independent from the Suez Canal Authority. Both have their own laws, special function, special budget and a different board of directors. The Suez Canal Authority is responsible for the management and maintenance of the canal, and all matters relating to the proper work flow of the Canal. The economic zone of the Suez Canal Economic Zone is concerned with the development of the areas and ports along the two sides of the canal.

The Authority has full powers and authority on the Suez Canal axis in all related activities and projects established within the geographical framework of the project without interference from the governorates of the areas where those projects are held. It also has the authority of all ministries, governorates and bodies within the geographical boundaries of the economic zone without interfering in the competences of the ministries of Defense, Interior, Justice and Foreign Affairs, which act as advisory bodies to the board of directors.


Objectives:
- The authority aims to establish and develop the entire region to enhance investment opportunities in all economic sectors, including logistics and industrial services in accordance with the highest international standards. It also aims to create an enabling business environment that encourages investors, both foreign and local ones, to establish companies in the region to benefit from all the advantages and incentives stipulated in the law.

• Ain Sukhna
- A major industrial and logistic axis at the southern entrance of the Suez Canal, which combines port facilities, industrial zones, residential areas, paved roads and railways, linking them to Cairo and the city of Suez.


- More than 162 square kms of a total area of 210 square kms of Ain Sukhna are dedicated to manufacturing. The area is designed to accommodate heavy, medium and light industries as well as commercial facilities. There are also opportunities for real estate development to build residential complexes. Related activities include shipbuilding and repair services, ship fueling and containers scrapping and recycling.


• Ain Sukhna Port
- The port of Ain Sukhna is located on the west coast of the Gulf of Suez, about 43 km away from the south of the city of Suez, with an area of 3.22 square kilometers and which is 18 m in depth. As for the surrounding areas, the port quickly became a major industrial hub serving local and international markets.

- Expansion plans include the operation of new container terminals, general cargo terminals and dry cargo and liquid cargo terminals. They also include providing logistics services, warehouses and distribution centers, establishing dry port and investing in the modernization of port vehicles and containers equipment.

• East Port Said area
- It is currently being developed to become a major recharge center as well as a multimedia logistics center. This area occupies 5.75 square kilometers in the area adjacent to East Port Said Port. According to the general plan for the region, 40 square kilometers of the area has been allocated for commercial activities and medium and light industries.


- The expansion of East Port Said Port in the northwestern part of the region stimulates industrial development, creates opportunities for water desalination and construction of power plants and also works to expand the road network.

Within the investment opportunities in the region:
- Real estate development and housing projects in East Port Said and Bardawil, some of which are overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

 

East Port Said Port
- It is the main hub for international and local freight at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal. East Port Said Port is also characterized by its depth which enables it to accommodate large vessels, making it one of the world's 40 busiest and most developed ports.

- The proposed expansions, covering 26 square kilometers, will provide a wide range of investment and development opportunities for the port and will develop logistics services which will increase the total area of the port to 70 square kilometers.

- It is a new residential community with light industry factories and logistics centers that facilitate access to the Suez Canal.

- Located near the agricultural land, 30 km away north of Ismailia on Port Said Road.

- West Qantara has many advantages in terms of proximity to the fertile Delta and it is ideal for agricultural business. Currently, there are approximately 6.13 square Km available for development in an area that is well supplied with water, electricity, logistics and drainage projects.

- Logistics organizations provide several services, for example - storage, transport, distribution, shipping, receiving and packaging services.

- West Port Said Port is a high quality freight center located on the main international sea route between the countries of Europe and South Asia. It is also located in the west of Port Said Port. It occupies 2 square kilometers at the northern entrance of the Gulf of Suez from the Mediterranean Sea.

• Adabya Port
The Adabya Port is located on the western shore of the Gulf of Suez, about 10 km away south of Suez. The port facilities are to be used to process large quantities of dry packed cargo.
It covers an area of 8.1 square kilometers. It has nine berths with a total length of 1840 meters and has the capacity to handle dry and liquid dry cargo vessels with a capacity of up to 60,000 tons.
Further investments in the port are directed to the establishment of additional terminals to deal with dry and liquid bulk cargoes, general cargo and containers.

• El Areesh Port
Located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea and with a shipyards extending over 40000 meters. It is considered as a port of goods, fishing and tourism. El-Areesh port plays a crucial role as the industrial and commercial port of North Sinai and the Gaza Strip.

• El-Tor Port
- A strategic outlet for South Sinai. It occupies three hectares on the eastern bank of the Gulf of Suez, south of Abu Zaneimah. The biggest bulk of exports are exported from El-Tor Port. This commercial port includes minerals, unpacked dry goods, general cargoes, containers as well as fishing boats.


• East Ismailia Port
- It is a new center for high-tech industries. It is planned to include scientific research and educational institutions.
- East Ismailia is located 10 km away east of the Suez Canal and covers an area of 71 square km, with electricity and water supply. East Ismailia offers ample opportunities for light and medium industries, research and development centers as well as services and commercial projects.
- A tunnel is currently under construction to connect East Ismailia with the Egyptian mainland, which will largely reduce transport time from east to west.
